AI: a useful tool for students? Or a nightmare for teachers?

Artificial Intelligence(AI) has seen significant advancements in recent years and is now being implemented in various industries, including education. These advancements have the potential to greatly benefit students and enhance their learning experiences. There has especially been a surge of new different AIs in recent years.

Created in January of 2021, Dall. E is an art AI that creates original art based on a simple given prompt; for example, you can say, " create a drawing of a blue bird flying between two mountains," and it will give you just that with amazing detail. Although an AI designed for art isn't something new, one creating art at such a precise and detailed degree shook the media and the public and gave them a realization of what AI was capable of.

That was just the beginning, though, as this paved the way for newer and better AI, finally ending up at MidJourney, which is an art AI far surpassing its older predecessors. This AI allows for drawings so detailed and advanced that it surpasses most actual artists, which created a controversial issue in the art industry.

above are the results of the prompt "Create a portrait of Spider-man as a swordsman, along with some specifications for the type of art we want"

Aside from art, though, there is one AI that can do almost everything relating to education and research. It is a tool countless students have used to create perfect original essays, business plans, and research papers in a matter of seconds. This AI is, of course, ChatGPT. Although the release of ChatGPT 1 (the first version of the AI) dates back to 2018, its uses were very limited and not practical, and although there were improvements in the second version, the third version, which was just released weeks ago, that far exceeded its past versions and blew up as the new hottest topic.

ChatGPT, able to create essays and research papers for regular assignments, has given students shortcuts for their classes. Many instructors, both at the high school and the college level, consider it as cheating but are at a loss on how to discipline students since it's impossible to prove that it was written by an AI. the most shocking factor about ChatGPT, as well as other AI, is the rapid growth factor. The improvements in these AI in such a short time can only be described as insane. The next version of chatGPT (chatGPT 4), aside from other major improvements, will have 500x the amount of data the current model, ChatGPT 3, has. This means it will be that much more advanced and productive. With the insane capabilities of the current model, it's frightening to imagine what we can create with ChatGPT 4.

Many believe this is a blessing since humanity's advancements will rapidly increase with the help of AI in all the different industries, but others believe that this will create a hellish world where all our jobs are taken over by AI, and we will all be left unable to feed our families, which we already see signs of with art AI taking over the job of artists. We have always speculated that AI will take over all the different industries, but we never expected it to be so soon and at such a pace. This only leaves us wondering what the different AI will be capable of 5 or 10 years from now.
