Welcome to Theater!

Updated: Oct 17, 2022

You may have seen a lot of kids walking around wearing a letterman jacket and wondered to yourself, “How do I get a letterman?” Well, there are many ways to get it; one way that would be fun, engaging, and an all-around good time is a theater! Now I know when most people hear theater, they think, ‘but it’s so embarrassing.’ So I’m here to tell you all the amazing things theater can do for you.

To start off we have the theater director Mrs.Lewis, she started the new tech theater group known as The Upstagers four years ago. The Upstagers participate in UIL One Act Play every year. Staying involved with UIL and Theatre can help you earn points that go towards qualifying for a letterman jacket. Other ways to earn points I performing on stage and behind the scenes for different productions. Once you earn 35 points, you’ve lettered! Now backtracking a bit, earning 10 points makes you eligible to be a thespian. Before you ask, a thespian is someone who is part of an honor society for theater. It was named after Thespis, who was the first person to step out and respond to the chorus during a Greek Play. The perks of being a thespian are getting cords for graduation. Thespians receive navy blue and gold cords. In addition, staying in the program for four years, you will get a Fine Arts cord which are red, white, and blue cords.

The drama club has rehearsals after school every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. If you're not able to make it, just email Mrs.Lewis @molly.dugger@manorisd.net. In rehearsals, you can learn about being an ensemble (performing in a group), lighting, set, costume design, and acting.
